LAS VEGAS – Shadow Creek, one of the country’s most exclusive golf courses, perennially ranks among Golf Week magazine’s Top 10 courses and Golf Digest magazine’s Top 10 public courses. It has been designated the best golf course in the world in a Robb Report’s “Best of the Best” issue.
Shadow Creek’s special environment makes guests feel as if they’ve been transported to another world. Located in the midst of the Nevada desert on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Shadow Creek continues to achieve national recognition and the kind of startling mystique reserved for only a select number of golf courses. Designed by renowned architect Tom Fazio, Shadow Creek is known for its natural beauty, rolling terrain, glistening brooks and ponds, lush gardens and mature trees. The visual elements, spectacular waterfalls and course design lend to astonishing views.
Fazio also oversaw Shadow Creek’s enhancement project completed in 2009. The project included a rebuild and reseed of the course’s tees and greens, an upgrade to the irrigation system and the development of a world-class, short-game facility within walking distance of the locker room. The short-game facility was created with the intent to reflect the diverse and intriguing shot values evident throughout Shadow Creek. The facility features multiple greens for guests to pitch and putt as well as practice bunker shots.
Shadow Creek is such a masterpiece, a golfer can look in any direction, from any hole, and never realize the course is in the middle of a desert. Standing on the perimeter of the course, facing away from it, one could never tell there is a course nearby.
“As a designer, I would have to say Shadow Creek was one of the grandest experiences of my life,” Fazio wrote in a book about the course. “It is a unique course and I doubt that I will ever have a chance to build another like it.”
Shadow Creek also is home to the annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational, one of celebrity golf’s most popular events. Since its inception in 2001, the tournament has raised more than $6 million for more than 45 charities including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Opportunity Village, James R. Jordan Foundation and Cats Care, the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats’ charity arm. The four-day tournament and celebration, which boasts incredible parties, A-list entertainment and competitive golf, has included celebrity and sports-star appearances by Jordan, Anthony Anderson, Brian Baumgartner, Jerome Bettis, Drew Brees, Chevy Chase, Roger Clemens, Larry David, Julius Erving, Jamie Foxx, Janet Jones-Gretzky, Wayne Gretzky, Ken Griffey, Jr., Kevin Hart, Brett Hull, Toby Keith, Toni Kukoc, Spike Lee, Mario Lemieux, Michael Phelps, Mike Piazza, Jerry Rice and Alan Thicke, among others.
A limited number of tee times are available Monday through Thursday at Shadow Creek for $500 for guests of any of the MGM Resorts International resorts along the Las Vegas Strip (ARIA, Vdara, Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Luxor, Monte Carlo, New York–New York, Excalibur and Circus Circus). Limousine transportation to and from the course, a golf cart and caddie are included in the green fee.
